Dr. Michael L. Harrington, an Idaho Native, earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine at Washington State University, graduating summa cum laude and the number one doctor of his class in 1991. In veterinary school Dr. Harrington received awards for the senior with the highest GPA, most proficient in small animal medicine, most proficient in small animal surgery, most proficient in large animal medicine, most proficient in large animal surgery (shared), and the Merck Senior Honor Student Award. He also received scholarships for cancer research and graduate research in small animal medicine. He is a member of Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. Following veterinary school he returned to Idaho to a mixed veterinary practice where he engaged in all aspects of veterinary medicine for both large and small animals.

After two years of private practice he returned to Washington State University to become the first resident in Neurology and Neurosurgery. During his residency program he participated in the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy Project for brain tumor research and completed his Masters degree in Veterinary Science. Following his residency he accepted a one-year clinical instructorship in neurology and neurosurgery at University of Missouri-Columbia. While teaching at the university he prepared for and subsequently completed the board examinations of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine to become a board certified diplomate in Neurology and Neurosurgery. He maintains active membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Harrington has published numerous journal articles, three book chapters, multiple proceedings publications, and has participated in many presentations at the local and national level. He has been involved with radiation biology projects, stereotactic radiosurgery, seizure surgery and the advancement of neurosurgical techniques in both large and small animals.

Dr. Harrington has successfully completed the entire integrative medicine coursework program (acupuncture and Eastern Medicine) at The Chi Institute. He also works closely with most local law enforcement agencies in the treatment of their Working K9’s.

Much of Dr. Harrington’s free time is spent studying the aforementioned integrative medical therapies. He also spends a tremendous amount of time with his German Shepherd Dog "Rykr," and together they are always looking for some new adventure or place to take photographs.
